« Previous Entries Next Entries » Tuesday, June 26th, 2007Don’t have time to write a book? What about a pamphlet?
BookExpoCast released an interesting session about pamphlets. You can download the MP3 for free here.
You’ll learn a little bit about the history of pamphlets but more importantly, how they can be used now and in the future. Why is that important? Well, we live in a sound bite culture and if you want to grab [...]
Freak People Out
John Kremer posted about some promotional ideas that had nothing to do with books but might spark an idea. One was from magician Criss Angel that lets you put your friend’s name and address in a video that you then send to your friend. They see it and then make personalized videos for their friends. Viral [...]
Friday, June 22nd, 2007Naming the FREE! book
This much we know, Chris Anderson’s follow up to his bestselling business book, The Long Tail, is going to be called FREE. What the subtitle will be is uncertain. Back in May, Chris invited readers to pick a subtitle from a short list he had compiled. And while they were good, none of them struck me [...]

Please let me know your T-shirt size and I’ll get one of these out to you right away.
OK, maybe Set the infinite components FREE! won’t end up on a lot of bumper stickers or T-Shirts (wait! maybe now it will.) But understanding and implementing the concepts associated with it can radically change your business. So much so that [...]
Giving it away for FREE!
The only way to make money in a Web 2.0 world is to give stuff away for free. We’ve all known that for a while now.
The secret is knowing what, when, and how much how much of your content to give away for free. Why? The reason is simple. Too many other people are providing exactly what you [...]
Every time I think I’m done posting, they pull me back in
I guess I’m having a Chris Anderson day.

Chris Anderson is Editor-in-Chief of WIRED, author of The Long Tail, and co-founder of the new website BookTour.com. [...]

Everyone in book publishing knows that PR and publicity are important for book sales. As I mentioned previously, if you are interested in selling books today, you must understand how online social media are changing the very PR ground underneath all us (read Brian Solis’ manifesto here.)
Embedded in Brian’s manifesto is a link to a post by Chris [...]
Amazon.com is not just a river in denial
The AP reports that Jeff Bezos says Amazon will sell 1,000,000 copies of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” but with such steep discounts that he won’t make any money on it. He also said that his $79 a year Amazon Prime “free shipping” drains the company of $600 million a year. (You can read the article here.)
Why [...]
Keywords are not key and Search is dead
If you think having the right Google search keywords is the secret to successful online marketing, I urge you to read this excellent article from Brian Solis titled ”The Future of Communications - A Manifesto for Integrating Social Media into Marketing.” Read it if you want to market books online or anything else for that matter. This is essential [...]
Thursday, June 14th, 20077 Ways to Save Harry Potter
Not that he couldn’t live on royalties alone.
Inc Magazine has an interesting article on what can be done to keep the brand equity of the book series alive after there are no more new books to sell. Excellent exercise in thinking “beyond the book” so that you can create additional revenue. See if you can [...]
