Photos from The Strand 80th Birthday Party
Here are some pix from the party. Enjoy!
Our MC for the evening: former Mayor Ed Koch. Interesting tidbit: I overheard him say that he was considering doing the ABC show “The Bachelor”
Gay Talese, author of the recent A Writer’s Life. Best suit of the evening.

Art Spiegelman, Pulitzer Price winning author of Maus.He deisgned the graphics on the Strand tote bag he’s modeling. Not sure who made the coordinating vest.

Judge Janice Goldberg from the hit TV show Law & Order (a.k.a. Fran Lebowitz.) Second best suit of the evening just for special effects alone.

Author Frank McCourt, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Angela’s Ashes. The crowd was a bit noisy and disrespectful when he began speaking but he made us put our heads on our desks and we quickly quieted down.

Author Pete Hamill. Apparently, Manhattan is his kind of town but not his kind of beverage.

Author Adam Gopnik.
Adam was so impressed by the evening that he’s going to write an essay about it. Of course, Frank McCourt will grade it and Art Spiegelman will illustrate it. Fran Lebowitz will run it past legal. Gay Talese will write a book about how Adam wrote the essay. Pete Hamill will only read if he is in Downtown Manhattan and Mayor Koch will repeatedly ask Adam “How’m I doing?” while the piece is being written. Sounds like a fun project.
