I seriously wanted to clone myself last weekend.
It was Book Expo America (BEA) 2007 and there were just so many good seminars to attend AND so much booth traffic AND so many meetings that I needed another “me” to do everything. As you’d expect at a trade show, seminars were the first to get the axe. But lucky for me (and now you), BEA will eventually make much of the audio content of the show available online. So if you were there and as busy as I was or if you didn’t even make it to the show at all, you can still learn tons about the book publishing industry by visiting BEA’s podcasting site: www.BookExpoCast.com.
You can download free MP3s on a variety of publishing related topics. The project is ongoing as not all the MP3s are posted yet but the good folks at BEA intend to add at least one new file a day during most June and July. The recorded content is broken up into several categories: author interviews, paid promotional spots (clearly identified as such), educational seminars (so far, my fav), special events (including Stephen Colbert’s breakfast stint), buzz, and other odds & ends. They also have some material from BEA 2006 available.
I subscribed to the podcast feed via iTunes and found some other things that weren’t listed on the site as well some omissions of content that is available at the site so I’m not depending on the podcast subscription alone. I’m going to check both the podcast feed and the website to make sure I get everything I want.
If you want to know what will eventually be available, go here: http://bookexpocast.com/2007-podcast-schedule/
If you want to see the current offerings. go to the home page: http://www.bookexpocast.com/ and then use the Categories links on the left to sift through what’s available.
I’ve already listened to a few and found them very insightful (minus the occassional blatant ad for a speaker’s product or services but that’s to be expected and they are kept it to a minimum.)
Enjoy!
